After triumphing over Pakistan, their arch-rivals, in a T20 World Cup 2024 match by six runs, Ricky Ponting who is a former Australia captain praised Rohit Sharma the India captain saying he is highly “knowledgeable”.
Opening the batting, Rohit managed to score 13 runs from only 12 balls which included a boundary and two maximums. However, Shaheen Afridi got rid of him in just the third over so his knock wasn’t too long.
In a video posted on ICC official Instagram handle, the Indian team’s defensive coach praised Rohit for his “excellent” captaincy against Pakistan on Sunday. Additionally while commending Hardik Pandya for other performances during this crucial game, he said he was “marvelous.”
“Rohit Sharma is an extremely season captain isn’t he? I just went up to him there and said mate outstanding captaincy today. I don’t think he could have done much more. If you look at some of the bowlers that are in his team; not only has he had those bowlers for India but also IPL as well. So he knows them really well when to put them and how they will execute it but one thing where the Captain can come up with a plan is ‘how you will bowl’ and Hardik was outstanding.” Stated Rohit.
According to Ponting, the second half wicket was different since when sun came out its dried very quickly.
“I thought he did a good job with ball as well and then if you break it down this has been a seamer’s wicket right now but their spinner bowled four overs for 20 also Patel took big wicket. Yes clearly different wicket in second innings. I mean like Pakistan made the ball hold up through natural variation and also it was just holding little bit tacky but when sun comes out then it dries pretty quick because then you have to, you have got adjust and adapt on the run, I thought he did that really well,” he added.
