When Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, Mishra met during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earlier this year, all expected sparks to fly.
On the other hand, these Delhi-born firebrands chose to give each other a bear hug, sweeping away the pasts of their lives.
This was one of those warm moments in IPL 2023 that made fans feel good. The two erstwhile team mates seemed to have mended fences as they showed signs of respect for one another on many different occasions.
Back in 2023 during an IPL event where Kohli played for RCB and Gambhir managed Lucknow Super Giants, there was a nasty incident on field but now they acted like it never happened.
Gambhir is KKR’s mentor while Kohli is responsible for RCB still showing that both have moved on from their past problems.
Formally provided by KKR Vibe, Amit Mishra has revealed how the matter ended through this video.
“This shows if anything who should take more responsibility than anyone else. It was Gupta Singh who told him it was wrong when he intervened. This could’ve been done by Kohli as he inflamed the issue.”
However during another event before IPL 2023, Kohli also remembered about this moment with Gambhir: “People are very disappointed with my behaviour… I embraced Naveen and then next day Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) came and hugged me. Your masala is over so you’re booing. We’re not kids anymore,” Kohli said
The former KKR skipper also gave insights into his relationship with the Indian captain and addressed issues concerning on-field conduct at large which makes these interactions what they are within cricket especially beyond cricket as well.
To highlight one important thing Mishra, journalists often blow things out of proportion just so people watch more of their programs.
All about TRP. Media does not know what kind of person I am, what kind of person Virat is. All that media has to do create publicity. But hype can also be created in a positive way, ”Gambhir said, pointing out the role of media in shaping public opinion. I totally endorse the comment by Virat- Logon ka masala nahi mila toh (The gossip bit is over for people).
Jab two log mature hote hai toh merko lagta hai ki kisine life me interfere nahi kar sakta hai aur naa hi unke relationship mein because ultimately who will be involved there, it’s between two persons only,” added Gambhir on this point.
Consequently, with Gambhir having been appointed as India’s national cricket team head coach after Rahul Dravid’s departure, their interaction dynamics are again up for debate.
