Therefore, the future of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup which was to be hosted by Bangladesh is uncertain due to political unrest.
Thus, due to security and logistical concerns, alternative venues are being sought by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The possibility that Bangladesh Cricket Board BCB will retain hosting rights comes as the ICC contemplates the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a possible replacement in view of time constraints on September 27th‟s commencement day with warm-up games, reads Cricbuzz report.
Several factors have contributed to this situation. The ICC has been looking for options more quickly due to BCB’s request for five extra days to submit a revised hosting plan and BCCI’s refusal to act as host nation because of monsoon season and busy cricket calendars.
A frontunner has been found in UAE with its favorable time zone, predictable weather conditions, and established cricketing infrastructure. Additionally, according to reports, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB)’s excitement about hosting further strengthens UAE’s chances.
Bangladesh Cricket Board is confident despite increasing pressure after discussions with Army Chief regarding tournament’s safety. However, these efforts are overshadowed by recent events that have seen some senior BCB officials including President Nazmul Hassan fleeing from political violence .
Furthermore, other countries such as Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have expressed interest in hosting this tournament thus presenting ICC with other options.
By August 20th when a pre-scheduled board meeting will take place primarily focusing on finalizing terms of reference for an inquiry into Men’s T20 World Cup recently held; this decision is anticipated from ICC.
The ICC faces a tough choice in slightly more than fifty days before the event starts – one that would largely affect involved teams’ fans, women cricketers worldwide and women pandemic.
