Kepler Wessels is the only international cricketer to have amassed in excess of 1000 runs and centuries in Test matches for two nations i.e. Australia and South Africa.
With isolation’s stringent regulations on sports, Wessels uprooted himself and moved to Australia to fulfill his burning desire of playing international cricket which was unmanageable while residing in South Africa.
Kepler Wessels made his Test debut for Australia in a match against England during the 1982-83 Ashes series held in Brisbane, and scored 162 runs in what would be his only innings in the test which he made in his first match.
His majestic 162 during that test match also signaled the commencement of his successful journey in Australian cricket.
Thereafter, in the following years, he became a regular member of the Australian side in Tests as well as One Day Internationals.
That is when Wessels updated himself as one of the South African cricketers after a long absence from the international stage.
Wessels made a comeback to international cricket with regards to his former country-South Africa. In the first Test match of the post isolation era against the West Indies in 1991-92, he was appointed the captain of the team. Likewise, he also captained them in the 1992 world cup, where South Africa played for the first time since the 1970s.
But Wessel’s most memorable performance especially for South Africa was the 105 runs scored against England at Lord’s in 1994. It made him the only cricketer who has scored centuries for two nations in test cricket.
He has also performed well in tests its during his test career Kepler wessels made six centuries and fifteen half century. However, in the one day internationals which were 109 in number and span over one year he only managed to score one hundred and twenty six fifties.
