Tropical Storm Gilma is increasing in strength in the eastern Pacific. So far, the storm has been getting stronger as it moves away from land which has brought some relief to those living along the coast.
As of Monday night, no coastal watches or warnings have been issued which has given a sense of relief to people. The storm was located about 720 miles (1,158 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and so this put it out of any immediate danger.
Gilma that turned into a tropical storm on Sunday appears to be gaining more strength. The National Hurricane Center warned that it may approach hurricane strength by mid-week. Forecasters are watching these developments closely.
With maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (96 kph) and a westward movement at around 10 mph (16 kph), the storm is growing steadily. It is anticipated that Gilma will gradually strengthen over several days as it continues across the ocean.
While Gilma churns in Pacific waters, Hurricane Ernesto rages on across the northeastern Atlantic Ocean. Its powerful swells are causing dangerous rip currents along the US East Coast resulting in widespread rescues.
