The New York Post reports flash floods as remnants of Tropical storm Debby hit Northern Pennsylvania and Southern New York state.
As it starts moving towards the Northeastern America, the major concern now is the high-speed winds following it.
The hurricane first hit Florida’s Gulf Coast as a category 1 hurricane on Monday morning, then moved off into the Atlantic Ocean before making landfall again early Thursday in South Carolina as a tropical storm.
Debby was classified as a post-tropical cyclone by Friday, after which it had become a tropical depression by late Thursday afternoon according to National Hurricane Center.
New York City has stopped raining but still predicts strong winds from tropical storm Debby.
Rising floodwaters caused some roads to be impassable and trapped residents leading to evacuation orders in Jasper town, Woodhull and parts of Addison near Pennsylvania border in Steuben County.
But by mid-evening, some of those evacuation orders were lifted when the danger of severe flooding got reduced.
By 7:30 p.m. yesterday, however, the threat had largely passed through – radar showed that at this time, Tropical Storm Debby’s center was racing off to the northeast at about 38 mph.
Heavy rainfall caused floods and tornadoes mainly damaging Northern and Southern California. So far some deaths have occurred due to storm across Eastern part of US.
On Friday evening all five boroughs had winds reaching speeds of 40 mph which are not intense like earlier estimates at around 50 mph but are still dangerous if they come up while doing other things out there.
By Saturday afternoon this will be blown out over the sea. The rainfall from Debby was much lighter than other cities hence authorities lifted flash flood warnings in New York.
“It means that any rain we’re going to see in the metro area will be brief and should minimise flooding impacts—nothing like what we experienced earlier this week,” Parami Weather meteorologist Christopher Tate called this “good news,” added the New York Post.
Although Debby has largely exited New York City, her aftermath continues to cause disruptions at the airports.
Flight status updates on Friday evening showed JFK and LaGuardia having many flight delays, where some were pushed back by as much as four hours.
