Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramdoss during a press briefing in Chennai government on Monday, August 5, 2024
Addressing journalists at his residence in T. Nagar, Dr. Anbumani claimed the data made available by the State Government officials to certain reporters was incomplete as it doesn’t reveal the number of persons from Vanniyar community directly recruited as Tamil Nadu Civil Service Group I officers.
“In the years 2013, 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2024, the number of Vanniyars recruited as Group I officers are 7 (out of 16 posts in MBC), 7 (out of 17 posts), 16 (out of 36 MBC posts), 3 (out of 10 MBC posts) and 5 (out of 19MBC posts) respectively. So the number of Vanniyars recruited in these years through MBC quota is lower than that for previous years at only about one half percent on average i.e., it was less than half percentage point,” he said according to PMK sourced data.
Dr. Anbumani further asked why other communities within MBC should have problem with reservations meant for Vanniyars at 10.5% when RTI data shows that they represent much more than this.
“Within the MBC fold there are around one hundred and fifteen communities: six point seven per cent is accounted for by one hundred and fourteen communities which include Denotfied Communities but exclude Vanniyar community out of total population of Tamil Nadu; while Vanniyar community accounts for fourteen percent out total population Tamil Nadu; this data is as per Ambashankar Commission. What we have been demanding from kind state government over representation pertaining to every individual mbc castes in education or employment spanning three ten five decades. But, the State Government has been denying us this data. But, now, for instance, State Government is giving these selected data claiming that it is RTI data,” he said.
Dr. Anbumani charged the State Government has released this data to create a perception that Vanniyars are already getting more than 10.50% within the MBC fold for political reasons.
“Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is going against social justice for cheap political gains. Group I and II hasn’t been give by the state government to us ever in life time of last three decades or two years only group iv they have released such as Vanniyars represented more than 12% constables but even this was only provided for last five ten years where as we ask it past twenty thirty years about it which communities have not found jobs among some thirty communities? A specific community has been cornering all the seats and jobs within MBC fold,” he said.
PMK leader Anbumani Ramdoss during a press briefing on Vanniyar reservations in Chennai on Monday, August 5, 2024
In Tamil Nadu, 16 individuals are at the rank of DGP, 23 people have the rank of ADGP, 41 individuals have the rank of IG and a total of 109 top police officials are there.
“There is only one person among these top police officers who can be classified as Vanniyar. There is an IG too. Can you call it social justice? In Tamil Nadu there exist fifty-three departments in which there are 123 secretary level posts. Out of those only one Secretary happens to be Vanniyar by caste even though that person also got into the position through promotion. If reservation had been implement as per rules for the last thirty-five years, in any case 10-15 Secretaries should have been Vanniyars. We need White Paper on MBC reservation in education and employment in 1989,” he added.
Referring to recently released section-wise information under RTI Act in certain media about number of Deputy Collectors belonging to Vanniar community, Dr.Anbumani clarified that though out of total strength of 530 Deputy Collectors there are 63 from this community, only twenty three were direct recruits. “The other Deputy Collectors came on promotions. After 76 years since independence only one candidate hailing from Vanniyar Community could come to IAS cadres directly”, he said.
Dr. Anbumani requested Mr.Stalin “to stop spreading false propaganda” and challenged him “to learn from Kalaignar” (former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi).
