On July 12, 2022, Jasprit Bumrah’s produced the best performance for a bowler from India on foreign soil in the first One Day International of their England tour at The Oval that left hosts breathless and eventually led to a big victory for the visitors.
When his team won the toss, Bumrah decided to bowl first and this initial burst saw him take four wickets with his first over being Jason Roy (0) and Joe Root (0).
Then came out Jonny Bairstow (7) and Liam Livingston (0) before he ended his opening spell. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami kept up the pressure by taking three wickets at a cost of 31 runs.
Upon returning for his second spell, Bumrah removed Brydon Carse (15) and David Willey (21), resulting in figures of 6-19 as England was bowled out for 110 runs off 25.2 overs.
Bumrah’s full spell showed he had bowled through 7.2 overs, none of which were maidens; he gave away just nineteen runs while capturing six victims.
Indian openers feasted on English bowling with an unbeaten partnership of 114 runs between captain Rohit Sharma who scored an undefeated knock of 76 off only fifty eight balls alongside Shikhar Dhawan (31*) to guide India to a memorable ten-wicket win.
Bumrah is still undisputedly leading as far as Indian players playing in territory beyond Asia are concerned.
India was crowned T20 World Cup champions yet again thanks to their talismanic fast bowler’s exploits last month.
Bumrah’s has so far taken 149 wickets at an average of less than two per match out of eighty-nine ODIs played with economy rate being below five.
