Shahid Afridi, the ex-captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its frequent changes in leadership and structure, arguing that these alterations negatively affect the performance of the team.
According to Afridi, there is a need for stability and long-term planning to guarantee the establishment’s success; thus proposing an inclusive approach that incorporates senior board members and experienced players towards developing a coherent strategy for Pakistani cricket.
In an interview with Parami News, Afridi said it was important to allow new systems time to germinate. The all-rounder explained how consistent change in management and administration does not help in nurturing player growth or consistency. ”When you are changing any previous or bring any other new structure then you must give time. Every year we have got new chairman coming up and we have got a new system going on things don’t work like this”, Afridi explained.
The ex-captain further suggested a more united front between top board officials as well as seasoned cricketers who will develop a plan that will be sustainable for Pakistan cricket. He said this plan should take about three years before bearing fruits.
“All senior board members together with senior players should sit at one meeting table and make one plan that can be executed for three years. Let results come out. If you are changing the system every year what result do you think you can get?” he continued.
Afridi’s comments came at a time when PCB is being questioned on its handling of player affairs and organizational reforms. In his view, former skipper is calling for consistency which he believes needs a more structured form of cricket administration in Pakistan if the country wants their national team to succeed.
