Sir Vivian Richards Stadium witnessed the culmination of an extremely lopsided contest between England and Oman in the T20 World Cup 2024 match on Thursday when the first team bowled out the other for 47 runs and then chased down the target within seven overs.
The English bowling attack was outstanding in this game as it restricted Oman to only 47 runs. This great performance with a ball set up the match and lead to an eight wicket win for England.
England skipper Jos Buttler gave credit to his bowlers, emphasizing their ability to extract more off the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium pitch.
“The bowling unit set that tone very well by picking up those early wickets and limiting them to that total. We have another big game coming up in two days’ time. I thought they bowled brilliantly. There was some extra bounce, thought they bowled really good lines and lengths. There was some spin, don’t think any of us expected the surface to play like it did,” Buttler said ANI quoted him.
In just 8 balls Jos Buttler played an unbeaten knock of 24 runs at a stunning strike rate of 300.00, resulting in England accomplishing their mission with only one wicket loss after three overs. For England, this win holds significance as they were looking forward to come back from their abandoned match against Scotland and a loss from Australia.
England won toss and chose fielding first as the game began unfolding. It all started quite badly for Oman when both openers Pratik Athavale and Kashyap Prajapati were dismissed at six runs each.
Athavale fell victim to Archer’s pace while he opened for Oman. Shoaib Khan top scored for Oman with 11runs but could not build partnership due to which his team got all out on mere score of 47 before end of over number fourteen.
Buttler saved his highest praises for Rashid as he picked four wickets conceding just eleven runs at an economy rate of 2.80 per over. “Adil bowled exceptionally well,” Buttler said.
Meanwhile, the English openers were in excellent form as they easily reached the target. Philip Salt and Will Jacks fell early but Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow remained not out to secure a thumping win for England.
