The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian cricket team will travel to England next year for a five-match Test series, which is scheduled to take place from 20th June to 4th August 2025.
The first Test will be played at Headingley, Leeds from June 20-24 with further Tests scheduled at Edgbaston, Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Old Trafford, Manchester (July 23-27) and The Oval (July 31-August 4).
The BCCI revealed the fixtures on X.
“Announced! A look at #TeamIndia’s fixtures for the 5-match Test series against England in 2025 #ENGvIND,” BCCI tweeted.
No Indian team has ever won a test series in England since their famous one-wicket win captained by Rahul Dravid in the summer of 2007. It will also be one of ICC World Test Championship’s most anticipated bilateral contests within its six-year cycle between the years 2025 and beyond as reported by ANI.
They were thus playing four Tests in August and September last year against Joe Root & Co., where they narrowly clinched this encounter by two wins to just one defeat as Kohli made his way towards securing his second away series victory as captain during this period.
However, due to COVID-19, this tournament had been moved back to July next year. This match was held at Edgbaston under Jasprit Burmah’s leadership where India lost it with seven wickets giving them a chance of winning the series under tough English conditions which would have been their best opportunity considering that they had already leveled it up at two all after four matches played so far.
England were defeated by India in their recent home fixture, with a scoreline of one-nil in favour of Kohli’s boys while facing England. It will be recalled that this contest was dominated by India’s opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, as well as a couple of spinners namely Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin who bowled them out so easily that the former were not even required to bat.
The matches have been placed at venues where England’s swing bowlers would hold sway, according to the ECB.
A week off will follow the first Test before the second one begins, and an eight-day break is in place between Tests three and four to allow players to recuperate.
