The Indian cricket team has been set ambitious goals by BCCI secretary Jay Shah following their recent victory in the T20 World Cup. He emphasized that the objective was to win both the World Test Championship and Champions Trophy with a squad comprising of experienced senior players.
“Our aim is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy, based on how this team is progressing. We will have a similar playing team there. The seniors will be there,” PTI quoted Shah as saying.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli who played in the final against South Africa retiring from T20Is after winning combined with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. “It was the same captain last year then this Barbados,” said Shah. “We won all games except the final in 2023 as Australia played better. So this time we worked even harder and we played better to win it. If you look at other teams, experience counts. Rohit has done well up till now. Virat did well also. Experience makes a lot of difference, in World Cups you can’t experiment much also. Those are not just mere words; they tell a lot about Rohit’s character.”
For India, it was known for losing big finals over the last ten years but ended its wait for a title after two ICC losses within 12 months. Shah was confident about future performance of team.
“I would want India to win all the titles,” Shah said. “We have got good bench strength and only three players from this side are going to Zimbabwe. We can put out three sides if need be.”
At some point he spoke about how these key players have changed by swearing profusely when asked what happened next.
“Transition has already happened with three greats retiring” Shah commented.
This triumph became India’s first ICC title win in eleven years that could herald forthcoming success stories under both aged campaigners and emerging talents alike.
