India again woke up last week to a chilling rape and murder case of a young female medical student at Kolkata. This has led to nationwide protests with doctors going on strike. The incident came around August 15th and many celebrities questioned the freedom and safety of women as the country celebrated another year of independence. Tamannaah Bhatia is among these people, who feels that events such as these have no meaning if there are no measures taken to protect women.
Tamanaah Bhatia urges women to strive for ‘real Independence’
Tamannaah Bhatia has become one of the other celebrities who compare this incident with previous crimes that had happened before against women in their notes. On Friday, the actress shared a note saying, “Yesterday India completed 78 years of Independence,” she wrote. We honored our freedom fighters’ bravery and sacrifice. We also had a reminder yet again, however, that our independence is incomplete until there’s freedom and safety for our women. The gruesome crime committed in Kolkata last week, along with countless others happening daily serve as constant reminders that we continue facing violence, harassment & discrimination; Women’s voices silenced & rights denied.”
She went on to say, “We are past the time of realisations; we need more than just talks; discussions must be converted into actions. Tomorrow is too late; JUSTICE needs to be served NOW! It’s high time that we look for right solutions and ensure that we teach our kids especially boys about what a woman actually means. Every woman’s heart bleeds so let us all work towards real independence.”
