Brian Masaba, Uganda’s captain chose to field first after winning the toss against Papua New Guinea in a Group C match of the T20 World Cup at Providence Stadium on Wednesday. Both sides are still looking for their initial victories in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as Associate Members after losing their opening matches. In 2021, PNG played without winning a single game; they lost the opening match to Windies but performed well enough against the host nation. A tournament debut by Uganda, which qualified ahead of Zimbabwe and hence caused an upset, was ended with a comprehensive loss to Afghanistan in their opener wherein they could score only 58 runs in chasing a target of 184.
