The Indian test star Cheteshwar Pujara will not be coming back to Sussex next season for the County Championship clash as the English side has chosen to dismiss him in favor of Australia’s Daniel Hughes.
Next year he will be available for all Championship games and T20 Vitality Blast matches, thus says a statement from the club. It was further confirmed by the club that Jayden Sales, a fast bowler who bowls right-arm and hails from West Indies, would feature in the series of county championship fixtures that follow next season.
He returned to Sussex for the third year consecutively in 2024. Parami stated that prior to Hughes arrival he had been active in seven opening championship matches.
In a written statement posted on its official website Paul Farbrace, head coach for Sussex explains, “Taking over from Cheteshwar is not an easy task but Dan has fitted in brilliantly and we are all delighted he will be back for the whole of next season.”
During this year’s Blast, Hughes was top group stage run-scorer with 560 runs at an average of 43.07 which included five half-centuries and his career-best unbeaten 96.
On September 4th at home against Lancashire Lightning, Ausie helped his team win 16-5 games to go through to quarterfinals.
Also included is playing five last county championship game in Sussex till now.
“Dan has been top class for us both on and off the field. He has brought into dressing room so much experience and really helped develop some of our younger batsman”, Farbrace said.
