After leading the team to a series win over Sri Lanka, India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, will fly back home because he is not part of the ODI leg of the tour set to start Friday when Rohit Sharma will take over the leadership. Nevertheless, Surya said he would be listening for the stump mic to catch up with his notable one-liners.
“Best of luck in ODIs; I’ll watch that whole series and wait for your lines. I know you will stand by stump mic as we have new guys in our team. Expecting more fun,” smiled Suryakumar on a video released by BCCI after India’s T20I success. Earlier than BCCI revealed white-ball squads for Sri Lankan tour it has become a hot debate in India which Hardik Pandya was appointed full time skipper of their national side.
The Indian cricket team emerged victorious against Sri Lanka having swept 3-0 in a three match T20I series.
The last game of this series saw Suryakumar being hailed as a bowler-hero who had decided to bring himself to bowl the last over when there were only six runs needed for them to defeat Sri Lanka. During this last over spanning across five balls, two wickets fell before restricting Sri Lanka scoring to just five runs thereby taking the match into a “Super Over”.
In fact, it was four runs from Surya’s bat that won India in Super Over.
India will look forward continuing their winning run with Rohit and Virat Kohli returning for ODIs. The first ODI on Friday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombowill be followed by second and third games of the series on July 4th and 7th of July respectively at the same venue.
