The new T20I captain of India’s team, Suryakumar Yadav, expressed his enthusiasm for the leadership role ahead of his first series as captain against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar took over from Rohit Sharma who had retired as captain; he always found pleasure in being a leader and has learned a lot from different captains during his career.
Suryakumar remains positive that he will be able to overcome this challenge without any problem. This will be when the three-match T20I series starts on Saturday with the host country, Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya was not chosen for this position as Suryakumar was preferred.
In view of his new position, Suryakumar said “Though I don’t have a title “captain”. I have always relished in leading on-field situations. I have been learning many things through my career from plenty of captains. It feels nice and it is also a big responsibility.” The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video where Suryakumar said these things.
He stressed about humbleness and balance in leadership positions. He said, “One thing which I feel is – how much ever you achieve or how bad you are doing just stay humble that’s one thing. Which I feel like sportsman should not do not only cricketer that’s one thing. Which i learnt That’s what helped me create balance in my life,”. “So when you perform something on the field keep it there and then go off it.”
In addition to these ideas, Suryakumar enlarged further on cricket and life perspectives.
“It is not everything; it is part of your life so cannot be up today and then tomorrow you are down there… So one thing. Which i feel like sportsman should not do not only cricketer that’s one thing. Which i learnt That’s what helped me create balance in my life,” He added. “And if you are a good person, everything happens good.”
Suryakumar hopes to take this philosophy of humility and balance into the team as he embarks on his new role and lead India to more success in T20 cricket.
