Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced: “Dushmantha Chameera is currently recovering from bronchitis and a respiratory infection, and he will therefore miss the T20I series. Asitha Fernando will replace Chameera in the squad. #SLvIND.”
Upul Tharanga, the chief selector confirmed at a press conference that; however, Chameera would be unavailable for both the T20I and ODI series against India. The 32-year-old pacer who recently featured for Kandy Falcons at Lanka Premier League 2024 is working on his recovery.
The three-match T20I series kicks off on July 27 followed by a three-match ODI series on August 2 to kick off India’s tour of Sri Lanka. The ODIs are scheduled for August 2nd, 4th and August 7th, 2021. It will be played at Pallekele International Stadium while R Premadasa Stadium shall host ODI series.
Both sides will have new head coaches during this series. Sanath Jayasuriya, the legendary all-rounder has been appointed as interim head coach for the Lankan Lions. The former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir will take over as head coach of India after their win in the T20 World Cup under Rahul Dravid. This is Gambhir’s first assignment as a coach.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka begins with a three-match T20I series starting on July 27 and culminates with a three-match ODI series starting from August 2nd. T20I matches are to be held at Pallekele International Stadium while R Premadasa Stadium will serve as an ODI venue. Furthermore, the ODIs are slated for August 2, 4 and 7.
