During the Sunday’s Vitality Blast against Kent, Hampshire Hawks’ bowler Chris Wood displayed a great example of fair play.
Wood received a standing ovation for his decision not to attempt to run out Matt Parkinson of Kent who had been hit by a powerful straight drive from the ball.
This happened in the last over of the first innings at Rose Bowl. Bowling with precision at both ends of the innings, Chris Wood came into this over with impressive figures of 1-12 off three overs.
He was able to get an Australian overseas player Xavier Bartlett lbw as he swiftly took a second wicket.
Kent were now nine down and Parkinson came in at number eleven. He started his account with a single. After that, Joey Evison, an all-rounder got couple runs out of Wood’s next ball delivery.
As it approached its climax, Evison tried throwing away a massive hit down the ground while Parkinson also faced danger and was struck on his body by the ball. Falling down in pain, he dropped his bat and bounced back towards Chris Wood.
With the ball retrieved by wood he had noticed that there was some injury in this tailender. However instead of dislodging bails which would have ended innings or walking past stumps he chose to do so. The crowd gave him a warm round applause for this gesture.
