Tabraiz Shamsi’s decision to opt out of Cricket South Africa’s contract for the quarter or the year is quite understandable. Tabraiz Shamsi has said that he would compete in more T20 leagues around the world. His services, however, will still be available for the South African side in the major bilateral events or ICC events in the white ball formats.
Going further, Shamsi explained through the statement that he would like amateur and more domestic contracts without being tied into such central contract arrangement.
As one last word on this issue, Tabraiz Shamsi explained that he would still want to play for South Africa in all and any competitions that might be held in the future in which a World Cup winning team will be sought for.
“I have made this decision with regard that this will help me and my family balance the opportunities that present themselves in the season and other opportunities that center on the family,” said Shamsi in a statement released by the CSA.
Tabraiz Shamsi, however, made it clear that he has no intention of quitting playing for his country again. This way he also dreams about the World Cup again and hopes to bring it home.
“I’m not going to be in any way impaired or discourage to play for the Proteas as a result of this. I will always be around when my country calls and it does not matter for what reason.
“This has always been my dream that one day the World Cup will be won by South Africa, and never will it be the case that a franchise league outranks representing my country,” Stained 34 Years Old.
CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe commented, “Shamo is a very important player in our white ball sides and we applaud him for that although it is his decision.”
Shamsi last represented SA in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against India. Till then he has played 2 test matches, 51 ODIs and 70 T20 Internationals taking 167 wickets in all formats of the game.
