According to officials, a social worker who has been fasting for hunger to protest against alleged corruption in rural development works in Mathura, died on June 13 at the district hospital.
Adesh Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mant said that he had earlier filed complaints with the rural development department accusing it of corruption in toilet constructions and MGNREGA works in his district.
The complaint was probed by a team that Sharma was part of but he protested against their findings and stopped eating outside a temple near his home from February 12 till date, said Kumar.
His family informed officials about his deteriorating health after which the social worker was taken to community health center and later shifted to district hospital. He passed away at the district hospital.
On June 10 I met him again requesting him if he could stop because there were other higher authorities that have been informed about this matter. The SDM said.
“I will only end it if you come up with fresh investigations,” pleaded Sharma but I cannot offer such guarantees as per authority,” noted the SDMA.
