At just 19 years old, Samson was included in the Indian squad and traveled to England (India’s tour of England in 2014), an experience that allowed him to share the dressing room with Dhoni himself.
Despite being so young, San Zhou has not shied away from taking the opportunity to learn from one of the great football players. He peppered Dhoni with questions and eagerly absorbed every piece of advice and insight the veteran had to offer during the tour, taking the opportunity to take as much as he could out of the veteran cricketer’s book lesson.
Now, Sanju Samson, who was selected in the ODI and T20I squads but didn’t get a chance to make his debut in the tour, reflects on what he learned from Dhoni.
“For me, the respect for Mahi bhai started from the day he started playing for the national team. I remember watching him in Thiruvananthapuram and wow the way he started. From then on I Just been following him closely and I’ve always been a big fan of him,” Samson told Star Sports.
“When I was 19 years old, I was selected as the second wicket-keeper for India during their tour of England. He was also there. During that tour, I got the opportunity to spend a lot of time with MS Dhoni She also sat in the back seat where he was sitting and asked him a lot of questions,” Samson said.
