Yuvraj Singh has these two Punjab batsmen of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma as his understudies, both of whom have already donned the Indian armory, a quickly budding Gill in the cricket arena spearheading the next generation and Abhishek evolving as a T20 wham bam thank you maam gun.
On Thursday, while Abhishek was in a celebratory mood as he turned a year older, so did his coach and former linage of men cricketer yuvraj who shared a clip of himself wishing the birthday boy.
“Happy birthday sir Abhishek. Wish you can make more singles this year than how many you clean the park this year,” Yuvraj jokingly posted to his mentee who is famed for his ball blasting abilities on X (formerly Twitter).
This year during the T20I series in Zimbabwe, Abhishek had his first-hand experience where Gill was captaining a rather green Indian side that had just returned home from the successful T20 World cup campaign led by captain Rohit Sharma.
He scored a powerful hundred in the 4th match of the series while he was able to amass 124 runs over the course of 4 innings.
Abhishek is a powerful hitter of the ball and handles pace and spin with backing ease, started his career as a middle order batsman. But, a move to the top three was quite successful for him in Punjab domestic cricket as well as Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.
He also proves to be a handy left-arm orthodox bowler.
“Every one of you keep trying really hard forever and ever!! Loads of love and wishes for a great year to come,” Yuvraj’s post on the social platform continued.
