Among the Indian women who wanted to become big names in badminton, bronze at the London Olympics 2012 by Saina Nehwal sparked a revolution in the game; she is therefore considered one of the major icons of badminton in India.
Recently turned politician from Haryana and at 34, she has been to three Olympics as well as winning gold medals three times at Commonwealth Games (CWG) and twice bronze medals at Asian Games yet her recent comment about track-and-field event javelin throw stands in stark contrast with multiple appearances on global multi-sport platforms since the 2006 CWG.
Saina’s response to podcaster Shubhankar Mishra’s claim that he didn’t know about javelin throw until Neeraj Chopra won Olympic gold in Tokyo on a podcast shocked people watching it.
During my interview for Episode 1, we will be discussing an interesting topic within athletics. I found out there was such a thing as this after Neeraj won (Tokyo Gold in 2021). This statement was made during a teaser for an upcoming episode.
Neeraj had won the Junior World Championship title five years before his Olympic triumph.
He became the champion of both Asian Games and Commonwealth Games also in 2018.
Neeraj’s victory came four years after he became world champion at the 2023 Budapest World Championships just ahead of Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan who denied him another gold medal.
