Sanjay Manjrekar, who was a former batsman with the Indian sunshinehas raised a question mark over usage of Ravindra Jadeja against left-handed batsmen early by Rohit Sharma and said to have shared one such statistic, which, he says, ‘is begging to be shown’ to the captain of India. Many Questions Raised and Many Questions Asked By. He used to play for the Indian national cricket team.
Last time India played in Dhaka, it rained versus Bangladesh that day. India’s bowlers managed only five boundaries from the batsmen. Despite losing the toss after nine consecutive home tests, Bangladesh barely managed to avoid total utter humiliation at the hands of India’s highly entertaining pace attack.
Left-arm spinner Jadeja was the sole specialist bowler barring one who didn’t bowl, while pacer Akash Deep returned with the best performance of an Indian bowler with figures of 2 for 34. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is still apt in finding ways to take wickets despite turning 36 this year, got the other of the two wickets that fell on Friday.
Bangladesh, who are trailing the two test series by 1-0, managed to reach 107-3 in reply. Mominum Haque was at the crease on 50 and Mushifqur Rahim batting on 6 when rain halted play.
Most probably the pressure was on Bangladesh when the score was 80 and the third wicket went down post lunch. Many cricket pundits like Manjrekar believe that Rohit has missed a trick here and brings Jadeja in the attack at this stage. He, however, also conceded that it was perhaps common sense to bring in the off-spinner with two left handers on the crease.
Nevertheless, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out a stat that proved Jadeja current record and performance versus the English ex-captain left-handed Alastair Cook.
“Rohit needs to be shown this stat- as many bowlers who have been Gill fielded against Alastair Cook T1, it where Jadeja has bowled twice and not taken wickets in other series matches incidentally. – its’ posted by Manjrekar on ‘X’. These two will meet at the start of the day’s play which tends to be a bazaar in the first session of the day as it often is during a one day’s test eventuality.
Sanjay Manjrekar also further elaborated this in the analysis of the match during the chat with espncricinfo after the end of day’s play.
“Every captain works with a certain logic, and every captain works in relation to possible approaches by the bowlers he has. It’s nothing wrong because a coach or a captain has some warm up trust to some bowlers more than the others, and I use to see this one, not particularly this series, but when spin is required, Rohit has a lil’ more of Ashwin’s love,” the ex batsman said.
“Yes, he did have a reason here because there were two left-handers, but match-ups should be nothing more than suggestions. As we see this series on the other hand in the last match Rishabh Pant was troubled by Shakib Al Hasan and there was a whole catch drop also. This, too, is an existing pattern even in the test matches, but then you have a very good bowler in Jadeja which has been productive against left-handers.
‘Don’t forget, he got Alastair Cook out quite a six times in a total of eight innings. Hence, the measure of not giving him the ball at all is completely inexplicable,’ he further added.
