Samantha Murphy’s murder accused Patrick Orren Stephenson faces another three months of detention pending further hearing in court after “unprecedented” amount of evidence was presented against him.
According to report, prosecutor Daniel White said, “The brief is extensive and involves a significant amount of CCTV footage.”
“There is however a need for this matter to proceed expeditiously,” Stephenson’s counsel Moya O’Brien opposes the extension for three months.
The 22-year-old is charged with murdering his mother-of-three 51-year old Samantha Murphy who disappeared on February 4th this year from Mt Clear.
Further, Stephenson is also charged with regard to an October 1 accident . He has been charged with careless driving and drink driving as well as drug driving in relation to a single vehicle motorbike crash at Ballarat. No further information about these charges was given and the case has been postponed till November 14th.
Stephenson’s father is Orren Stephenson who was a former AFL player. The search by police and members of the public locally have not yet yielded any trace of Murphy who disappeared whilst out jogging on Febuary 4th.
