The US should not be very concerned about Russian warships in Cuba but the West seems indifferent to any diplomatic overtures from Moscow and only wakes up to its reality when it sees an action by either the army or navy, Russia said on Thursday.
The arrival of a Russian naval frigate and nuclear sub into Havana Harbor yesterday was seen as a show of strength by Russia although US and Cuban authorities have both said the visit does not pose any threat.
There is no evidence that Russia has moved missiles towards Cuba, but Mr Sullivan maintained that America would remain watchful. When asked whether Washington was worried about possible movement of Russian troops or establishment of a military base in Cuba, Kremlin spokesman Mr Peskov commented, “These are things which happen.” “So we don’t see any reason to worry.” Responding to the question what signal Moscow was giving by such actions foreign ministry spokesperson said: “Why Western countries get signals only with regard to our land forces and naval?”
