Thursday was a day of tears expressed in laughters, cheerings, clappings, salutes and love from every angle when Team India brought home T20 World Cup coveted trophy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Rohit Sharma and his team, whom they enthusiastically waved at their fans as they danced to the sound of dhols; greeted crowd during Victory Parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Among those waiting for them with tears rolling down her cheeks was captain Rohit’s mother, Poornima.
As her son arrived an exhilarated Poornima rushed to the door hugged him tight and showered him with kisses. Joy written on a mother’s face and tears flowing down her cheeks were too evident not to be remark about her son’s return.
According to Rohit’s mom, Poornima had revealed that before taking off for the T20 World Cup which took place in the Americas, Rohit had made up his mind to quit playing T20I format sooner than later.
“I never thought I will see this day. He came to meet us before going for the World Cup and told that he would give up on Twenty-Twenties after this series and I just said go win. Today I was not feeling well so I had a doctor’s appointment but still came as I wanted to see this day,” shared Poornima with Indian Express newspaper.
“No words can describe how happy I am. Look at them cheering. I have never seen such an atmosphere before in my life. The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. Today is my happiest day as a mother; what more can I ask now! Life won’t give another chance like today again.” She continued adding; “While taking the lap of honour it was emotional moment because he has been playing for days like these” she added.
