Rishabh Pant of Delhi 6 in the forthcoming Premier League T20 will be in the opening game.
On Saturday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Pant will be playing for Purani Delhi 6 against South Delhi Superstarz led by Ayush Badoni.
Pant has Ishant Sharma as a teammate at Purani Delhi 6. This is subject to his availability with a busy international calendar that follows.
“Rishabh has agreed to play the first match of the DPL T20 as he wanted to be a part of this initiative that is likely to provide a great platform for youngsters in Delhi. He acknowledges the role played by Delhi cricket in his career. However, it’s important for him to take care of himself given there is a long Test season coming. Being in prime shape to represent the country is his utmost priority. After the first match of DPL, he will turn back into red-ball training and begin preparing for long-format cricket starting from Sept’s Duleep Trophy’s first week,” says a source close to Pant quoted by Parami News.
A reliable source confirmed that Pant wants more time on field due to an accident in December 2022 which made him lose about ‘fifteen months’ worth of cricket.
“He would like to play some more matches but he had planned out his preparations for the forthcoming international season properly. Since he hasn’t featured in this format within twenty months it wasn’t thought wise by those who look after him that he should postpone getting ready with red-ball.”
