India’s Ravindra Jadeja is on the verge of putting his name in the history books for all-rounders. To put this into perspective, only 10 persons in the history of Test cricket have managed to touch that milestone which is scoring 3000 runs and taking 300 wickets. Jadeja is just six wickets away from being in this league. Only two other Indian cricketers, Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin, respectively have achieved this feat.
Ravindra Jadeja has so far played 72 Tests, with runs amounting to 3036 and wickets taken 294. He will have a chance to reach this milestone in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Kapil Dev called it a day with the bat and ball in 434 wickets and 5248 runs in 131 Tests. Also sharing the same platform with jadeja is one of the spinners in the Indian team ravi chandran ashwin who has accounted for 516 wickets and scored 3309 runs from 100 Tests. The achievement of such a double has, of course, been enjoyed by a number of persons, perhaps some of them most recognizable faces.
An openly-file Australian spinner Shane Warne signed off his career with 708 wickets and 3154 in 145 Test matches. England’s Stuart Broad has taken 604 wickets and scored over 3662 runs in 167 Tests. Ian Botham’s Test career statistics reached to 102 Matches 383 Wickets and 5200 Runs. New Zealander Richard Hadlee had in turn had 431 Wickets 3124 runs in 86 peroframence.
Daniel Vettori from New Zealand excelled in his career and recorded 4531 runs and 362 wickets in 113 Test matches. South African cricketer Psaun Pollock recorded 421 wickets and 3781 runs in 108 Test matches. Imran Khan from Pakistan went on to appealing 362 wickets alongside a tally of 3807 runs in 88 Test matches. Finally, Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka recorded takers of 355 wickets and a total of 3089 runs in 111 Test matches.
Best known for his left handed batsman and all rounder ability, Ravindra Jadeja currently aged 35, is at an intersection in his career where going beyond what he has accomplished is inevitable. Fans are keen to imagine whether he will be able to take those six wickets to achieve this fine mark. This upcoming 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh shores up as the right platform for this.
