According to officials, the meeting was attended by: Giridhar Aramane, Secretary of Defense; Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor; General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff; Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, DGMO; and heads of security-related agencies. The meeting is being held at South Block; it comes a day before Independence Day on August 15th.

Similarly, in order to guarantee public safety prior to Independence Day celebrations tomorrow (August 15th), heightened security measures have been placed in effect throughout Jammu and Kashmir state.

Previously as reported on August 10th, two soldiers and one civilian were killed during a gun fight that erupted between terrorists and the security forces at Anantnag.

The encounter took place during a joint operation launched by Indian Army troops along with J&K Police and CRPF in general area of Kokernag in Anantnag. Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma lost their lives during the counter terror operations at Anantnag.

This morning Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi led all ranks of the Indian Army in paying tribute to Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma who laid down their lives while eliminating terrorists at Kokernag in Anantnag District.

Antimilitants attacks have increased recently with an army convoy being assaulted in Kathua among other incidents in Doda and Udhampur regions.

As per Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) report presented to Lok Sabha for the month of July up to July 21 this year there were 28 casualties including civilians and security personnel from 11 terrorist activities and counter-terrorist operations.

Last month Indian army stopped an attack by Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) along Line of Control (LoC) at Machchal sector in Kupwara district which resulted in the death of one Pakistani intruder and an Indian Army soldier, while four others including a major rank officer were injured.
