The second T20I match between Indian and South African women was not completed at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday as rain interfered.
The match started late, furthermore it rained heavily during the innings of South Africa as a result the game couldn’t resume.
South Africa is leading the three-match series 1-0. After a loss in their first T20I, India made four changes to their XI.
Its fielders were lightning fast despite slippery conditions and its bowlers struggled with gripping of wet ball but remained accurate in line and length. SA women had a fruitful start but that was checked by hosts through well-timed strikes.
In the Powerplay, they simply dominated; in 10 deliveries, they struck six boundaries – skipper Laura Wolvaardt hitting three consecutive fours off Shikha Pandey.
It meant that Pooja Vastrakar (2-37), who took over from Renuka Singh as new-ball operator deserved praise since she dismissed Wolvaardt.
Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp fell to spinner Deepti Sharma (2-20). When powerplay ended Kapp who loved going straight down the ground tried to get into aerial mode for once again; however unlike last time where she timed it well this one went off her bat toe end high up into mid-off hands of Sajana.
The inform batter Brits (52) who registered her second successive fifty used her wrists effectively when driving or cutting any ball that came. She was dropped on 5 by debutant wicket keeper Uma Chetry before finding another opportunity which she didn’t miss. Deepti served slower one outside off stump which saw Brits come out of crease hence picked by Uma therefore doing her work rightly.
