There was a familiar name in the Mysore team’s lineup when they faced Namma Shivamogga in Maharaja Trophy match – Samit Dravid.
Samit, the son of India’s batting legend and former coach Rahul Dravid, made his debut in the Maharaja Trophy on Thursday. This excited his fans as shown by their reaction on social media.
Samit wore jersey No.4 after Mysore were told by Shivammoga to go for batting first and he didn’t have a remarkable time as he only managed 7 runs. Nonetheless, fans loved seeing another Dravid play cricket.
Mysore won by 7 runs (DLS method) even though rain meant that only less than twenty overs of Shivamogga’s innings could be played before they reached their target. After putting up a competitive 159 for 8 on board, Mysore reduced the Shivamogga side to 80 for 5 in nine overs.
This is the first time Samit plays a state T20 league. Purchased for INR 50,000 by Mysore at auction, the eighteen-year-old all-rounder is also an occasional medium-pace bowler and competent middle order batsman.
He has been part of the Karnataka Under-19 team which won Cooch Behar Trophy 2023-24.
