Rahul Dravid was at his candid best after completing his tenure as the chief coach of India, as was easily chatty when asked on stage issues during the recently held CEAT awards.
The former captain and coach of India mesmerized the audience with a delightful conversation and shared his thoughts to the visitors with great pest, quizzing them if they have any recommendations for his career and whether he could be e-mailed for that purpose.
“Things like this and awards like this should be given after the camera rolls are focused on a much better aspect of yours which is on the cricketing arena. So this is in a way true, and the fact of the matter is that in this game, and I have no qualms about saying it, you end up failing much more than succeeding. But that’s what becomes even more interesting, even more, delightful,” says Dravid, about his life as a player and coach.
The last assignment for Rahul Dravid in his capacity as the coach of India was when he played the T20 World Cup, which was joint hosted by the USA and the West Indies earlier this year.
Rahul Dravid, as the calm-go-getter who prefers to stay off the limelight and prefers to get the work done, was overjoyed upon receiving the trophy from the boys after beating South Africa in a very close final where the game was decided only in the last over when the match was won by 7 runs in favor of India.
“I tend to not show those emotions to my children, especially those where I look like I have gone berserk or something, but when moments like the above come along, I tend to think otherwise,” Dravid said with a smile.
“But I have been always telling the boys that, we have got to maintain our balance, we have got to keep our heads and not get carried away or depressed with the ups and downs of the results, that has been the theme all through well not all year but since I took over the team.
“The boys are thanking God, that was my last international match, otherwise they would have rather said it has now become a circus you are saying something yet you are doing another (smiles),” He laughed.
When she asked the audience if they have anything that they would like to say and suggest as a career advice to Rahul Dravid, the floor was then opened for the guests.
‘Indiranagar ka gunda’, ‘One of these voices said referring to the advertisement that Dravid did some time ago in which he shouts those words with aggression’
“For 30 seconds, that was very hard to explain. I was like no way, I cannot take part in this activity in any shape or form. Begged to stop in the middle of it all. Sorry, that’s not my kind of talent. But yes, any career advice, i’ll send you my email, any thoughts send to me,” said Dravid and the guests laughed at that too.
Another voice from the audience said: “A biopic”.
The anchor then asked Dravid: Who would play you in a biopic, Rahul?
A witty Dravid replied: It’s good enough money, I will play it, which left the audience screaming with laughter.
As a coach for the Indian U19 team and senior men’s team, Rahul Dravid took the boys to the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, ODI World Cup and a T20 World Cup.
India lost the WTC and ODI World Cup finals to Australia but returned with the T2O World Cup.
