There were some mistakes made by the bowling unit of Radha Yadav in their narrow 12-run defeat against South Africa in the first women’s T20I on Friday, with specific mention that the seam bowlers could have bowled more yorkers during that time.
The Indian bowlers had a tough time as they bore the brunt of an aggressive batting display by South African duo of Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp. This resulted in a score of 190 runs posted by South Africa through Brits’ 81 and Kapp’s 57.
Radha said during her post match interaction with media on Friday. “It was important to know which length and pace to bowl at on this wicket. We did make some errors as a bowling unit; maybe gave away 10-15 extra runs.”
“We needed to hit them (at yorker length) since the ball was skidding,” she added. This is because South Africa relied heavily on a sweep shot that worked well for it on a grass that had low bounce.
There was a moment when there were heated discussions among Indian players in the field,” Radha explained. “We were discussing about making them play where the fielders were stationed and also look to attack and take wickets. But, they did bat well.”
“We need to back our plans and judge how fast the surface is playing. It will be good for us,”
On Sunday India will face off with visitors in second t20I, The hosts must improve their fielding especially catching.
“I think it was just a bad day” commented Radha. “Every member of our group is superb fielder and all have been working hard training. We’ll come back.”
