After the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media and praised Rohit Sharma, India’s cricket team captain who has retired from the shortest format of the game. In a tweet, Rohit thanked PM Modi for his kind words on Twitter: “Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The team and I are very proud to be able to bring the cup home and are truly touched by how much happiness it has brought everyone back home.”
India emerged victorious in their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa with seven runs in Barbados on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma showed gratitude to PM Modi via a post on X: “Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The whole team is feeling really proud that we could bring this trophy home and are overwhelmed with joy because it has made many people happy back there.”
PM Modi called the players immediately after India had won as he reminded them that Rohit Sharma was also deserving of accolades for his amazing leadership qualities during his long career playing Twenty Twenty cricket. Furthermore, the premier commended Virat Kohli’s match-winning knock of 76 not out apart from his influence on Indian cricket.
“Dear @ImRo45 You are excellence personified Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy has given a new dimension to Indian cricket. It will always be remembered Rahul Dravid too.” PM thanked Rohit Sharma separately via Facebook.
On separate occasions recently; PM addressed Rohit Shama’s exceptional captaincy skills. He said “Dear @ImRo45 You are excellence personified. Your aggressive approach to batting and leading have added another perspective to Indian Cricket Your T20 career will not be forgotten Delighted talking with you sometime ago today.”
PM wrote about some players whose contributions were notable, including Virat Kohli among others: “Dear @imVkohli, Glad to have spoken to you. You anchored the Indian batting line up perfectly, just like in the finals. You’ve shone in all forms of the game. Although T20 Cricket will lose a lot when you retire, I am confident that you will continue to inspire players for years to come.”
Prime Minister Modi also thanked Rahul Dravid in addition to the players for his prolific coaching career which came to an end after this tournament.
“Rahul Dravid’s incredible coaching journey has shaped the success of Indian cricket. His unwavering dedication, strategic insights, and nurturing the right talent have transformed the team. India is grateful to him for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are happy to see him lift the World Cup. Happy to have congratulated him,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Following their collective effort resulting in India’s victory at T20 world cup 2024; countrymen celebrated with them as they sang praises of these sports men and women plus other relevant personnel such as their coach Rahul Dravid until he retired from international coaching with this recent triumph over South African team at Barbados.
