The jury in the historically important criminal trial of the ex-US President Donald Trump went into recess on Wednesday following a preliminary deliberation to decide whether the former US president would be found guilty or not.
According to an AFP report, after spending nearly five hours in an undisclosed location away from public scrutiny, the judge adjourned proceedings for the day and will continue on Thursday.
Before being dismissed, they asked to have two witnesses’ testimonies re-read and for the judge to once again explain how he interprets law. The 12 New Yorkers are now under intense scrutiny as over 20 testimonies were concluded last night by Theodore Nelson who said: “You must set aside any personal opinions you have in favor or against the defendant.”
This trial’s outcome has potential ramifications for this November’s General Election which could see Trump come back as President.
Trump has been accused of falsifying business records to hide $130,000 payment made to adult actress Stormy Daniels, who allegedly had sex with him during his 2016 Presidential campaign and was paid off to keep quiet. Prosecutors contend that deceit was behind it all, aimed at hiding information about his behavior from voters. If convicted, Trump would face political consequences more severe than anything else because it could make him a criminal just five months before November 5th election.
He instructed Mr. Trump to remain at the courthouse until a verdict is reached. In response, Mr. Trump left the court room and uttered a harsh statement outside surrounded by reporters stating “Mother Teresa couldn’t beat these charges” in very disgraceful manner
