Prince Andrew could be evicted from his Windsor home, possibly moving into the Royal Lodge at Royal Lodge if rumors are to be believed. The Daily Mail reports that King Charles is considering ending private funding for security on the estate, valued at around £30 million with 30 bedrooms and a yearly cost of £3 million.
If he cannot come up with money for repairs and safety, this may force The Duke of York out.
Last year Prince Andrew had financial difficulties meeting the maintenance costs of £400,000 per annum at the Royal Lodge in spite of King Charles’ decision to withdraw security funds.
The Crown Estate owns the property and hence according to it should continue to be occupied by Royal Lodge This has prompted people close to the Yorks to suggest a reason behind their eviction.
“For some reason several pals of Prince Andrew have given me this theory as well,” Richard Eden wrote. “Could it be that this campaign was aimed at turning Royal Lodge into Queen Camilla’s future residence if she survives her husband?”
It was in 2003 when they paid £1m for a 75-year lease on the residence. Sarah Ferguson along with Prince Andrew divorced in 1996 but still live in separate wings of Royal Lodge. As they headed off for their annual summer retreat at Balmoral Castle, where they will join King Charles, who will stay there until autumn (and was recently interviewed by Richard Eden about possible tensions between royals during trip), both Yorks are going together with their family.
Richard Eden said: “Well you know what? Nothing is going on here because why would you kick him off; I mean there’s no point. He’s doing it because he pays for his own security.”
The future hold little clarity about what will happen at the royal lodge as we hear stories about grouse shooting escapades, salmon fishing outings and picnics among other activities carried out by royalties. This retreat should be a time for Prince Andrew and King Charles to talk about the situation with The Duke and Duchess of York at Balmoral.
