Pakistan’s cricket team faces a significant challenge ahead of their two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on Wednesday, as fast bowler Aamir Jamal has been released from the squad due to fitness issues. Jamal, who has been struggling with a back injury, will now undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, ANI reported.
Initially part of the squad for the ICC World Test Championship series, Jamal had been included pending a fitness clearance. However, his back problem, sustained while playing County cricket in England earlier this year, has not fully healed. As a result, the 28-year-old fast bowler will miss the crucial series, reducing Pakistan’s squad to 14 players.
This latest development follows the earlier release of spinner Abrar Ahmed and top-order batter Kamran Ghulam from the squad over the weekend. Pakistan’s pace attack will now be led by left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi and the returning Naseem Shah. Khurram Shehzad and Mir Hamza will also feature in the fast-bowling lineup.
Jamal’s absence is notable as he was expected to vie for a spot in the final XI after his impressive debut against Australia earlier this year. His ongoing injury will now delay his opportunity to make a significant impact on the international stage.
Pakistan are currently sixth in the World Test Championship standings and aim to secure a series victory against Bangladesh. Success in this series would bolster their ambitions of reaching next year’s one-off final at Lord’s.
