Basit Ali, a former cricketer from Pakistan, believes that appointing Mohammad Rizwan as the captain of Pakistan’s Test side is a good idea because he could lead the team to future successes, including in the next Test series against England played at home.
Prior to this statement, Ali has been raising complaints regarding Pakistan’s heavy dependence on the current Test captain Shan Masood, who assumed this position after Babar Azam resigned following Pakistan’s group stage elimination in the ODI world cup 2023. Under Masood, Pakistan has lost five Test matches, including two matches to Bangladesh in their own backyard.
“Pakistan will win the Test series against England if Mohammad Rizwan gets the captaincy,” Basit Ali told on his YouTube Chuck. “You will see a different Babar Azam in the England series but the condition is Captain should be Rizwan.”
Due to the series of poor results posted by the Pakistan team, presently they sit at the 8th position on the World Test Championship table with only little 16 points accumulated from all the matches played yielding a winning rate of 19.05:: great criticism has been taken. This rank does not allow one to dream of making it to the final.
The upcoming Test series against England which consists of three matches is very important and according to Ali Rizwan’s captaincy could come in handy.
Lowering the burden of captaincy to Rizwan Ahmed will also help Babar Azam to come back to the form which he is currently lacking since stepping down as captain’ said Basit Ali. Certainly, Rizwan is an important figure in Pakistan’s international cricket due to his reliability behind the stumps and in the middle order.
