On a rain-soaked first day of the Test in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, two lefthanded players – Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub made hard-fought fifties to rescue Pakistan from 158/4.
Shakeel was not out on 57 at the end while Ayub scored 56 off his first fifty in a partnership of 98 runs for the fourth wicket after Pakistan found themselves at 16/3
In his seventh half-century, Shakeel reached 33 running to become a thousand run scorer in his eleventh test. He put together another fifty partnership with Mohammad Rizwan (24*), adding 44 runs for the fifth wicket.
