From a position of 26 for 6 in their first innings, Bangladesh have dramatically transformed themselves to a level such that they can overcome Pakistan on the last day in the second Test in Rawalpindi and complete a historic first series win over Pakistan. N/A
Bangladesh took a first Test lead against Sri Lanka with 10 wicket win.
Litton Das’s 138 along with his 165 runs eighth wicket stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz who scored 78 reached unassailable heights leaving behind Khurram Shahzad’s 6 for 90 efforts as Bangladesh will make 262 in reply to Pakistan’s first innings 274.
It was soon after a good burst of fast bowling from Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud 45-5 and Nahid Rana 44-4 on a green top supporting surface that routed the Pakistan second innings demolishing them for 172 setting Bangladesh 185 to chase down.
At the end of the fourth day’s play, Bayliss’s team had lost no wicket chasing 43; opener Zakir Hasan made a brisk 33 not out off 23 balls. His teammate Shadman Islam was 9 not out when the day’s play was called off.
There was livid reaction from former Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shahzad who offered scathing criticism on the performance of the home team.
“Bengali bowlers have yet again bronzed his chest by amazing the Pakistan batsmen,” one Shahzad can be heard saying in a video recording he posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The T20 batting for instance is quite disturbing. The bat is way far from the body on the skies shots on which they get out. Even such shots when Whay! Do coaches counsel you on such shots even in T20 and T10 format? “
In the second innings, Agha Salman was the highest scorer in the Pakistan side with 47, as Saim Ayub managed to top the runs scored for Pakistan over the entire match with 58 runs sheaked earlier in the game.
“Tumhare pich ache sabki dragen lo. Aap apni galtion se seekh hi nahi rahe hain (you are doing with confusing charm). And still I do not have horrible sensations that you know# Say such things about yourself. Phillips, shocked, asked, ‘Doctor curacy dp. In, Do not do this Do not hope,’ Shahzad stated.
‘It is indeed true and am very thankful by all of you, Bangladesh once came and created history by beating you in the first Test and now how you are dominating in the second. It cannot be dismissed as luck. All these things, when you are being beaten by Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Ireland, these things are not luck. That is the situation Pakistan has created for you, you have brought it to this stage.
Shahzad went on to share that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must also be blamed equally for this nosedive in the performance of the team and should try hard enough not to focus on such tactless tactics state that.
‘I don’t only blame the players. The PCB is as much responsible for this (downfall) because some things were right before us. Yes, there were some decisions which we had to take, but we did the same old thing, saying things on TV. And tried to divert the attention of the people,’ is how the ex-batsman explained.
‘Uske baad hum soch rahe the ke Bangladesh team aayegi, Unko toh hum hara hi lenge (Then we were thinking that Bangladesh Team will come we will defeat them anyway). And when we have done this, then the anger within the people will be settled. So we will start the Pakistan Cup in the mean time.
‘All this play of yours has come back to bite you in the behind.’
