A Pakistani journalist has faced a lot of backlash over his social media posts featuring Sourav Ganguly, India’s former cricket captain and Pakistan’s player Imam ul Haq, asking fans to select the best among them for a game.
This angered fans who accused him of treating Ganguly equally with Imam who scored over 18000 international runs in his 311 ODIs and 113 Tests and yet to make an impact in international cricket.
The young Pakistani opener has played just 24 Test matches, two T20 Internationals and 72 One Day Internationals, scoring less than five thousand runs in his career.
Popularly known as ‘Dada’, Ganguly remains one of the most iconic captains that India ever had in its cricket history.
From year 2000 till 2005, Ganguly revolutionized Indian cricket with his aggressive style of leading Indian team which knew no fear while taking any opponents on in the field.
During this time India achieved some notable heights including reaching the finals of the World Cup held in South Africa in the year 2003 and winning Natwest Trophy during their tour to England held at The Lord’s Cricket Grounds in the year 2002.
Ganguli’s period as captain was characterized by several things such as developing young stars like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and also shifting focus towards teamwork along with resilience .
He is remembered for being a leader who made members feel confident about themselves; he also developed a mentality among them that would not accept defeat.
