Bangladesh decided to bat first in a rain-delayed first test at Rawalpindi on Wednesday, which left Pakistan in a bad position after they lost 3 quick wickets.
Shoriful Islam, the Bangladesh pacer, sparked the collapse with that of captain Shan Masood and star batter Babar Azam for a duck.
In this incident, there was an apparent emotional reaction from both parties. Masood got caught behind in the 7th over and had a heated argument with the umpire before leaving the field.
For Bangladeshi players, Shoriful released his delivery on a back of length that produced high bounce causing Massod to tentatively push it towards mid-off. However, his teammates asked him questions because they believed he slightly touched it while he went out. But umpire never upheld their plea.
Determined that Masood had nicked it to the keeper, Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain chose to exercise his review option. And so he did; as ultra edge replay showed clear deflection.
Shan was not happy with this formality but talked tough with umpire about whether the ball struck him only on pad or if technology was wanting.
However, Umpire Richard Kettleborough directed him straightaway towards locker room citing no other words expected from him. A very disappointed Shan walked off unhappily from the ground.
Bangladesh included two spinners and three pacers whereas Pakistan came into the match with four fast bowlers and without any frontline spinner.
Pakistan are currently sixth and Bangladesh eighth among nine teams participating in this two-match series that is part of World Test championship.
