There is a switch in the ruling party’s opinion poll, with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party leading Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party ahead of the July 4 general election. In the You Gov study for The Times newspaper, Reform UK has gained two percentage points to reach 19%, while the Conservatives remain stable at 18%. Labour leads with 37%.
The survey was conducted between June 12-13 and included 2,211 respondents after Sunak promised to cut taxes by £17 billion in the Conservative manifesto. This contributed to Farage’s return to frontline politics and leadership of Reform UK.
Since Nigel Farage announced his return to frontline politics, his party, Reform UK which he led during Brexit campaign period has seen a rise in its poll rating. He has taken over as leader of the new political party and is standing in a parliamentary constituency.
“This is an inflection point” said Farage on X. Only wasted vote now is conservative vote? We challenge labour and we are going all the way,” said Nigel Farage in a video published on X.
With its tough stance on immigration and other populist issues, Reform also finds some support among voters. Nevertheless, other surveys show that the Tories still outpace their rivals from Reform UK thereby giving an indication of a competitive political field before elections set off.
However, this surge will not help Reform UK win many seats since it is spread too thin across every constituency around Britain as this small right-wing party founded in 2018 as Brexit Party. Sunak who left D-Day memorial events early has faced criticism which has affected his campaign significantly.
