NEW DELHI: Abhishek Sharma‘s promising start came to an abrupt end due to a run-out caused by miscommunication with his opening partner Sanju Samson during the first T20I between India and Bangladesh in Gwalior on Sunday.
India were chasing a modest target of 128, and Abhishek began with an aggressive intent, scoring 16 off just 7 balls, including two boundaries and a six, before disaster struck.
On the last ball of the second over, Samson played a gentle push toward short mid-wicket, and Abhishek rushed for a risky single. However, Samson hesitated and sent him back too late, allowing Bangladesh’s Towhid Hridoy to fire a direct hit and dismiss the southpaw.
While Abhishek’s strike rate of 228.57 was impressive, his dismissal prompted advice from former Indian cricketer and mentor Yuvraj Singh.
After the match, Yuvraj took to social media to offer constructive criticism in response to a fan’s comment on Abhishek’s Instagram post.

The fan had optimistically remarked, “Can feel a big one coming.” However, Yuvraj reminded the young cricketer to be more mindful, replying to the fan’s post, “Only if we apply our brains properly.”
Abhishek, still early in his career, has shown flashes of brilliance, but this run-out is a learning moment. Yuvraj, who has been in similar situations during his illustrious career, wants the youngster to temper his aggression with awareness and communication.
India will take on Bangladesh in the second T20I at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Should India win the next game, they will secure the three-game series after a recent 2-0 sweep over Bangladesh in Tests.
