After the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes TDP-BJP-JSP Alliance, swept the elections in Andhra Pradesh, the talk of political town has been about pending cases against President of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu.
To be clear, Mr. Jagan has twenty-six cases on him in CBI Court as we speak. He recently petitioned for permission to travel with his wife Bharathi to London to meet their two daughters on 17th May before a judge at the CBI court, Nampally, in Telangana.
Though there were concerns by CBI to let him go abroad because of unresolved legal issues but the court permitted Mr.Jagan’s foreign trip as he wanted it. On behalf of Jagan, one advocate tried to convince that A.P CM had often traveled outside India without violating court orders.
Mr. Jagan filed an affidavit with ECI mentioning that there are 26 cases going on against him. These consist of the ones lodged by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Directorate of Enforcement.
Some among them are corruption prevention money laundering forgery etc., which is only a portion of other types like defamation disobedience to order promulgated by public servant prevention disagreeing with singing National Anthem etc. Sources say more than 130 discharge petitions have been filed in relation to these matters pending before courts.
Another 24 cases are also pending against Naidu as revealed by sources. The CID of A.P Police arrested him and kept him for more than fifty days in Rajahmundry jail after filing some allegations such as sand mining, distilleries, Capital Amaravati, Fibernet, Assigned Lands, Siemens etc.
Also, the CID has other pending cases like road shows; social media posts and speaking against COVID-19.
The CID filed an FIR under various Sections IPC Prevention of Corruption Act etc. The allegations on Mr.Naidu include irregularities in the decision-making process while implementing a policy decision to provide free sand thereby causing loss to the State exchequer; irregularities in decisions taken by the government between the years 2014-19 fixing privilege fee and granting permissions to distilleries and brands, thereby causing loss to the State exchequer; irregularities in the decisions taken for designing master plan for A.P capital region and capital city and alignment of inner ring road with connected arterial roads to cause wrongful gain to certain persons; swindling of funds by M.s Siemens & M/s Design Tech and their shell/defunct allies by bogus invoices and thereby siphoning off funds of the government are charges against Mr. Naidu.
