The newly appointed chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Jay Shah on Thursday also expressed his gratitude to managers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others for their good wishes in relation to his appointment.
With all the other candidates withdrawing, Shah, currently the Secretary of the Indian cricket board BCCI, is set to take over from Greg Barclay the ICC chairman from December this year.
“Thank you, @imVkohli for your kind wishes. As a team, we all look forward to take cricket to newer heights, so that it continues to shine with unparalleled brilliance around the world,” this is what Shah replied to the Indian batting legend shortly after thankusting him on X.
He is 35 years old and has served as the secretary-general of the BCCI since 2019, his appointment came from all 15 members of the ICC Board making him the youngest holder of the top cricket authority.
Barclay decided against a third term
“Thank you, @ImRo45! Your leadership on and off the cricket field has helped to motivate future generations of cricketers. We will make every effort to ensure that cricket becomes a more powerful tool than it is now and to keep improving the game and its values,” thanks to Shah read to Rohit.
But Shah’s experience is not limited to the global game, taking up the position of the Chair of Asian Cricket Council in January 2021 has given Shah the opportunity to deal gauge the motivation for changes with regard to the structure of cricket administration within such a sub-continental region.
“I am grateful for the nomination. It is an honor to take on the position of Chair of the International Cricket Council. I intend to work in close cooperation with the ICC team and all the member nations,” Shah was quoted as saying in an ICC media release.
“I Would like to say this is an important turning point in our operations. Increasingly, it is crucial to manage the existence of different formats of the game, to get that expansion into the new territories, as well as to make advanced technology usage more accepted. Our ideal is to – make cricket so inclusive and widely known like never before,” he said.
This is how he thanked everyone who sent their good wishes to him for this position.
