Cheteshwar Pujara has posted a video on social media in which he can be seen sweating it out in a training video, preparing himself for the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season.
In a video posted by him on Thursday, the image of the 36-year-old practicing in the nets was posted with the caption “Never stand still”.
Since getting dropped from the Indian team for more than a year now, Pujara will try to make a solid case for national selection with a good showing in the domestic circuit.
He last played professional cricket in the month of May for Sussex in The County Championship where he scored a graceful 129 off 302 balls against Middlesex.
Having played for India last in the 2021 -23 World Test championship finally against Australia at the Oval herself in June 2023, Pujara’s form in overseas tours has come under the scanner. In that match, he managed to contribute only 14 and 27 runs to his team in a losing cause with a huge margin of 209 runs which resulted in his axe from the international team as well.
Complimenting him on the performance, Pujara remains an important player for the side since Saurashtra will be kick-starting their Ranji Trophy campaign against Tamil Nadu on 11th October. He is aware that the window of opportunities is very small.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s current statistical overview indicates his significance for the Indian cricket team. He has played 103 Test matches and scored a total of 7195 runs with an average of 43.6, which includes 19 centuries and 35 half centuries. The experience and hunger of runs in Pujara make him a very consistent batter in Indian cricket, and a good Ranji Trophy may pave way for his return to the national side.
