NTA has resolved that a high-power committee will look into complaints filed by 1,600 students who took NEET 2024 for admission to medical colleges.
The results of NEET-UG were declared on June 4. Several candidates alleged discrepancies and asked for another examination. These issues spanned from the alleged paper leak of NEET in Bihar, hidden grace marks allegedly given, illogically high scores, an unexpected number of full scores and very high cut-off scores.
NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh denied reports of leaked question papers this time around saying “question papers were shared on social media around 4.30 pm, two hours after the exam had started. We denied reports on May 6 that paper has been leaked. Integrity of examination was not compromised at all.”
“Only one question affected [the students] this time. So many questions are prepared out of which even after reassessment only 790 qualified students could be found among the entire 1,563 questioned ones.13 lakh students overall qualified.” The overall percentage of marks is not affected by those who have been compensated with grace marks.
NEET was attempted by more than twenty-three lakh aspirants this year. NTA received the maximum number of challenges (13373) related to provisional answer key for any single Physics question.“Considering the differences in old and new editions of NCERT (National Council Of Educational Research And Training) textbook subject experts opined that instead of one option two options should be taken as correct,” added NTA.
For this issue it is only about 1600 students out of all those who wrote exams in all the various centers Mr Singh said.
According to him, New committee under former Chairperson UPSC will look into compensatory marking issue and issues relating to loss due to accidental loss of question booklets or other reasons affecting candidates’ time loss thereon.Committtee would recommend therefore NTA will come up with a report in the shortest time possible. Mr Singh said that counseling and admission process will remain unaffected.
Mr. Singh stated: “We had registered FIRs across the country, we will cooperate with police.”
“A petition urging for re-examination signed by over 2000 students claims there has been unexpected number of full scores, very high cut off .” “A total of 67 students scored a perfect 720 out of 720, which is highly questionable and not digestible. This has never happened. Usually, only three to four students score perfect marks,” it said.
On the issue of grace marks, NTA Director General says “Grace marks formula is based on time loss, based on attempted questions. The maximum was 720, the lowest was -20, it depended on candidates.”
He added that they would address the issues raised by these 1,600 students who are asking for retest and compensatory marks
